Residents in Basingstoke, Hampshire, can look forward to a significant shift in weather as temperatures are expected to climb to 27°C and 28°C over the coming weekend, marking the warmest conditions of the year so far for the area. According to the Met Office, this warm spell will bring a welcome change from the cooler, unsettled weather experienced earlier in the week.

The forecast for Basingstoke indicates that temperatures will reach 27°C on Saturday 23 May and peak at 28°C on Sunday 24 May. While the thermometer may show these higher numbers, the actual feeling on the ground during the warmest afternoon hours is expected to be around 25°C due to light winds and lower humidity.

Across the extended weekend, running from Thursday 21 May through Bank Holiday Monday 25 May, the chance of rain remains below 5% for the majority of the time. However, the Met Office warns that UV levels will reach “High” throughout this period. Residents are advised to apply sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and seek shade during the middle of the day to stay safe in the sun.

This upcoming stretch of weather represents a notable increase compared to earlier in the year. Prior to this, the highest temperature recorded in 2026 was 19.2°C at Northolt near Heathrow on Thursday 4 March. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tony Wisson noted that the southeast of England is expected to see a rise in temperatures throughout the week as the country transitions to these warmer, fine conditions.
