Footwear retailer Shoezone has officially opened a new store in Sunderland, moving its operations into The Bridges shopping centre. The shop welcomed its first customers at its new location on 15 May 2026.
The retailer has moved from its previous outdoor unit on High Street West into Unit 35 inside the shopping centre, a space formerly occupied by Roman. This relocation is part of a wider strategy by the company to move into high-traffic areas, despite recent national challenges that have seen the business report a £5.3 million pre-tax loss and close 14 stores across the country.
The new indoor store offers a broader selection of footwear brands than the previous location, including Rieker, Skechers, Hush Puppies, Lilley & Skinner, Heavenly Feet, and Relife, alongside the company’s own-brand collections. Store manager Alison Leigh is overseeing the site, which also created a new 16-hour staff role.
The store is open to shoppers Monday to Saturday from 9am until 6pm, and on Sundays from 10am until 4pm. The shopping centre, which is owned by Evolve Estates, continues to manage its retail space following the company’s acquisition of the site in May 2024.
