A popular tradition is returning to the coast this month as the Classic Cars on the Beach event comes to Southend-on-Sea on Sunday 31 May 2026. The free exhibition will take place at City Beach from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, showcasing a variety of vintage and classic vehicles that are at least 25 years old.
The event is hosted by Southend-on-Sea City Council in partnership with the Southend and District Classic Car Club. Following a break in recent years, the organisers have reintroduced the display as part of a monthly series that will run on the last Sunday of each month through to October 2026.
Councillor Daniel Cowan, Leader of Southend-on-Sea City Council, noted that the event has been a much-missed feature of the local calendar and expressed support for its return. Councillor Matt Dent, Cabinet Member for Business, Culture, Music, and Tourism, added that the display serves as a celebration of culture and motoring heritage set against the seafront backdrop.
Residents and visitors heading to the area for the May half-term and extended bank holiday period can also participate in other local activities, including the Southend 99 Open Top Seafront Bus, which runs until 31 May, and the Eastwood Summer Fete, which also takes place on 31 May. Owners of classic vehicles aged 25 years or older who wish to participate in future displays can submit their details through the Classic Cars on the Beach event page.
