Residents in Middlesbrough are invited to help transform local green spaces during a community volunteer session at the Sandy Flatts Community Allotment on 1 June 2026.

The event, which runs from 10am to 1pm, aims to build healthier and more connected neighbourhoods through sustainable food growing. Volunteers will spend the morning weeding and clearing overgrown sections of the site, as well as planting seeds to encourage biodiversity and soil health.

The session is part of the Communities Growing Together programme, an initiative coordinated by Middlesbrough Environment City. The charity, which has worked across the region since 1992, is hosting the day in partnership with All Year Round – The Flower Patch.

The project is supported by The National Lottery Community Fund. Participation in the volunteer day is free, and organisers will provide tea and refreshments for those who attend.

Anyone interested in taking part is asked to register in advance. Residents can sign up by calling 01642 579820 or by emailing [email protected].
