Drivers and residents in Horden should prepare for road closures beginning on 8 June 2026, as Durham County Council carries out essential street lighting cable work. The project is expected to last for three weeks.

The temporary order affects specific sections of Hardwick Street, Fifth Street, Sixth Street, and Seventh Street. The closures will specifically include a 155-metre stretch of the back of Hardwick Street between the A1086 and the rear of Seventh Street, along with smaller sections of the rear of Seventh Street and connections between the numbered streets.

During the work, motorists will need to use alternative local roads to navigate the area. The council has noted that while the project is expected to take three weeks, it is covered by a legal order that allows for a maximum duration of 18 months, and any necessary changes to the work dates will be displayed on signage at the site.

For further information or updates regarding local infrastructure, residents can visit the Horden Parish Council website.
