A free family-friendly World Cup Fan Park will take over The Parade in Watford town centre on Saturday 27 June, bringing football-themed fun, a live DJ and community stalls from midday until 10pm.

Organised by Watford Town Centre BID, the event is designed to build excitement ahead of England’s group stage match against Panama, which kicks off at 10pm. There will be no live outdoor screening of the game on the day, but visitors will be pointed towards participating local pubs, bars and venues to watch the action after soaking up the atmosphere along the stretch between L’Artista and Pondside.

Kick-up challenges, football pool, mini games, family entertainment, dedicated social areas and photo opportunities are all part of the mix. Glen Hempenstall, Head of Marketing & Events at Watford Town Centre BID, said the new event was “a fantastic opportunity to bring people together to celebrate one of the world’s biggest sporting occasions”. As evening approaches, the daytime family programme will shift into a high-energy build-up with a DJ, competitions and venue promotions.

The BID hopes the initiative will boost footfall and support the evening economy while giving the town a focal point for fans on what promises to be a busy World Cup night. More details on activities and the list of venues screening the match are expected in the coming weeks.
