A new Macmillan Cancer Support Centre is set to open at Stepping Hill Hospital in July, providing free drop-in advice and guidance for people affected by cancer across Stockport and the High Peak. The Stockport NHS Foundation Trust facility, designed by architecture firm Arcadis, will offer a calming space with natural light and nature-inspired elements, located between the rear Medical and Surgical Building entrance and Outpatients Department C.

Michelle Davies, Associate Director of Cancer at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, said the impact of cancer often extends well beyond a diagnosis. She added that people may need emotional, practical and financial support, as well as information, at different points in their journey, and the centre will provide a welcoming space for that personalised assistance from a dedicated team. Once open, the service will operate on a no-appointment basis and host coffee mornings, wellbeing sessions and visits from partner organisations including Citizens Advice.

The Trust says the centre is a significant expansion of community cancer support locally, with plans to grow beyond the hospital site through community-based activities and partnerships over time. More details are available on the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust website.
