A free event offering practical safety advice for older people will return to Clacton’s Princes Theatre on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, Tendring District Council has announced. The Older Persons Crucial Crew, hosted with the Tendring Community Safety Partnership, brings together a dozen emergency services, charities and support groups under one roof from 10am to 3pm, with teas and coffees provided on arrival.
Attendees can speak directly to representatives from Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, the East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Adult Social Care, among others. Community Voluntary Services Tendring will distribute Winter Warmer packs to those who meet the eligibility criteria. Advice desks will cover fire safety, crime prevention, personal wellbeing and emergency preparedness. Councillor Peter Kotz, portfolio holder for assets and community safety, said the format gave residents trusted information in a supportive setting.
The event has been running since at least 2014 and was last held at the Princes Theatre in October 2025. Topics historically covered include emergency planning for floods, cold weather, personal safety, rogue traders and callers at the door. The Tendring Community Safety Partnership was formed in 1998 and its membership spans the council, police, fire service, NHS and voluntary sector, with current priorities including anti-social behaviour and serious violence.
Free parking is available for Tendring residents with a valid pass after 11am in the nearby High Street and Wellesley Road car parks. For more information, Nicola Baines can be reached on 01255 686108 or at [email protected].
