Bloxwich Academy shut its secondary school to all pupils on Thursday 25 June as extreme temperatures threatened student health and safety. The decision, made after consulting the Matrix Academy Trust, kept the Leamore Lane site closed for the day, though a small number of vulnerable pupils attended by prior arrangement.

The closure was announced in a letter to parents on the evening of 24 June, giving families less than a day’s notice. Executive Headteacher Mr J Till and Head of School Mrs C Eardley wrote that forecasts showed conditions across the school day would compromise pupils’ health, concentration and wellbeing, despite measures already in place. All other pupils were expected to switch to remote learning, accessing work through the school website with their email accounts.

The school has told parents to assume lessons will resume as normal on Friday 26 June, with pupils attending in full uniform. Staff will keep checking the forecast and contact families straight away if arrangements for Friday change. The letter also reminded households about staying safe in the heat and keeping away from open water, noting that warm weather often draws young people outdoors to cool off.
