Torquay United have strengthened their ranks for the upcoming campaign with the double signing of former Yeovil Town captain Jake Wannell and goalkeeper Toby Savin.
Wannell, a 32-year-old centre-back, arrives at Plainmoor after a season in which he made 40 National League appearances for Yeovil. Two years ago he captained Taunton Town to the National League South title and then helped them record 19 clean sheets during their debut season in the sixth tier. Savin, 25, joins from Wigan Athletic and becomes manager Jimmy Ball’s eighth new recruit of the summer. The former Accrington Stanley keeper made 112 appearances for the Lancashire club across five campaigns before a spell with Shrewsbury Town in 2024/25.
Torquay finished third in National League South last season, reaching the play-off semi-finals where a victory over Dorking Wanderers set up a final appearance, though they ultimately fell short of promotion. Ball, who took charge midway through that campaign after Paul Wotton’s departure, has moved quickly to reshape a squad that led the division in February before a costly dip in results. Wannell began his career in Exeter City’s academy and later turned out for a string of Southern League clubs, including Dorchester, Chippenham, Poole, Weymouth, Salisbury and Taunton, before joining Yeovil.
Season tickets, branded as the Plainmoor Pass, remain on sale for 2026/27 and now include access to more than 40 men’s, women’s and youth team matches at the ground. Prices have been frozen, and supporters can spread the cost using Klarna payment options.
