Young storytellers and artists can help celebrate the return of Telford Town Park Amphitheatre through two creative competitions launched by Telford Theatre. Children aged 8 to 11 can write imaginative stories beginning with the sentence ‘Nobody expected the amphitheatre in Telford to come alive…’ while children aged 5 to 7 and those with special educational needs can enter a colouring competition.
Entries must arrive at the Southwater One reception desk by 10 July. Winners receive a family ticket to an amphitheatre show of their choice and runners‑up get £15 ticket vouchers. Prizes will be awarded during the amphitheatre’s opening weekend on 18 July 2026. For the writing competition, children aged 8 to 9 should write 300‑500 words while 10 and 11‑year‑olds can write 500‑800 words.
The 400‑seat amphitheatre opened in the 1980s as a vibrant cultural hub hosting live bands, drama and dance performances before closing in the 1990s. Restoration work began in June 2026 when local contractor Pave Aways started the main works, funded by Telford & Wrekin Council with support from additional grants. The project is part of the wider Investing in Telford and Wrekin programme.
The opening weekend on 18 and 19 July 2026 will feature performances by local bands Jester, Hadley & District Orpheus Male Choir, and Midnight Jukes, launching the Telford Theatre on Tour 2026 programme. Colouring sheets for the competition can be downloaded from the theatre’s website.
