Southend-on-Sea’s 105th Mayor, Cllr Tony Cox, is hosting a charity cricket match to raise money for two local causes at Shoebury Garrison Ground on Wednesday, 12 August. The event runs from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with proceeds going to the Mayor’s Charity Fundraising Committee’s nominated groups for the 2026–2027 year.

Players can join the match for £20, while spectators are invited to donate £5. The afternoon will also feature children’s half-time challenges. Teams and individuals looking to take part can book their place by emailing [email protected] or calling 0300 102 1557.

The two charities set to benefit are SAFE Essex and STRM – SEND the Right Message. SAFE Essex is a parent support group that raises autism awareness and offers vital support to autistic individuals and their families across Essex, including Southend and Thurrock. STRM – SEND the Right Message is a parent‑led registered charity based in Benfleet, providing practical guidance, community support, and early intervention pathways for families of neurodivergent and disabled children across Essex and Southend.

Cllr Cox, who represents West Shoebury Ward and leads the Southend Reform UK Group, took office on 14 May after serving as Deputy Mayor for the 2025–2026 municipal year. The annual mayoral fundraising campaign runs a series of events to back the chosen charities, and organisers are encouraging residents to confirm their spot for the cricket match as soon as possible.
