A 37-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with the death of Lila Hall, who was killed by two dogs at a home on Willis Pearson Avenue in April. Matthew Williams, from Wolverhampton, was brought before Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court on 7 July, charged with being the owner or person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.

Ms Hall, aged 78, suffered catastrophic injuries when emergency services were called to the property at about 11:30pm on 15 April 2026. Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic attended, but she was confirmed dead at the scene. A 37-year-old man who was present was also injured and taken to New Cross Hospital. Both dogs remained aggressive when officers arrived and were destroyed at the scene.

Williams was remanded in custody and will next appear before the court on 4 August. The dogs are not believed to be a banned breed. West Midlands Police have continued to appeal for witnesses as part of the investigation, led by Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell. A police cordon remained in place for several days following the attack as investigators processed the scene.
