Young people with special educational needs and disabilities can share their views on local services at a free Welwyn Hatfield Youth Council session this week. Hertfordshire Services for Young People (SfYP) runs the two-hour event on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 at the Welwyn Garden City Young People’s Centre in Block A of Oaklands College.
Open to 11- to 25-year-olds with SEND, the session begins at 6pm and contributes to improving opportunities across Welwyn Hatfield and Hertfordshire. Attendance requires a referral through the SfYP form, and the event is free. Those taking part can discuss issues that matter to them, shape council decisions, and help develop local projects.
The youth council is part of the countywide Voices of Hertfordshire programme, which puts young people with lived experience at the centre of SEND service design. Since launching in July 2024, similar councils have started in East Herts, North Herts, Hertsmere, St Albans, Stevenage, and Watford. Participants can also join Voice of the East, a regional partnership where they meet peers and work on broader social challenges.
The Welwyn Hatfield group usually meets every Wednesday during term time from 6pm to 8pm at the Focolare Centre on Parkway. The 8 July gathering moves to Oaklands College, offering a chance for new members to get involved.
