Police Appeal After Hammer Assault Outside Poole Co-op

Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was struck on the head with a hammer outside the Co-op store on Northmead Drive in Poole.

The alleged assault happened at around 6.35pm on Saturday 4 July 2026, involving a woman who was known to the victim. The man returned home after the incident and an ambulance was later called when his condition became apparent. He was taken to hospital with lacerations to his head. Police have confirmed his injuries are not considered serious or life-threatening.

Officers have arrested a 57-year-old woman from Poole on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. She has since been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue. Police Sergeant Phil Pearson said, “An investigation is underway, including taking witness statements and carrying out CCTV checks. I am now appealing to anyone who was at the Co-op store around the relevant time who has not already spoken to police and may have seen what happened to please get in touch.”
