Residents can raise concerns directly with neighbourhood officers when Middlesbrough Police host a Cuppa with a Copper drop-in at West Middlesbrough Family Hub on Stainsby Road on Monday 13 July. The informal session runs from 1.30pm to 2.30pm, requires no appointment, and puts local people face-to-face with the team policing their streets.

Officers will be on hand to discuss issues specific to the local area and offer advice in a relaxed setting. The hub, at Stainsby Road, Whinney Banks, TS5 4JS, sits within the Ayresome policing neighbourhood and forms part of the council’s network of six family hubs.

West Middlesbrough Family Hub is one of several centres funded through the government’s Best Start in Life programme, bringing services from midwifery to financial advice under one roof. It can be reached on 01642 579120. The format echoes similar sessions run by other forces. PCSO Dan Andrews of North Yorkshire Police, who helped launch the first Cuppa with a Copper events in Scarborough in December 2024, said the idea was to reach people who might avoid larger public gatherings. “We want to reach out to those in our community who don’t necessarily want to come to some of our more public events,” he said. “Cuppa with a Copper will allow a more relaxed atmosphere, over a brew, in an informal setting.”

The neighbourhood policing team’s appearance at the hub forms part of broader efforts by Cleveland Police and the council’s Neighbourhood Safety Team to tackle concerns such as vandalism, drug use, and rowdy behaviour across the town.
