Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses after a car struck a pedestrian on Rossmore Road in Poole and fled the scene on Sunday evening. The collision involved a white Vauxhall Astra and happened at around 8.45pm on 5 July 2026, according to an appeal issued by the force.

The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious. Officers attended alongside the South Western Ambulance Service and closed the road to allow emergency crews to manage the scene. Police Constable Mia Lomas, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this collision and are appealing to witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward. I am also keen to hear from anyone who was travelling in the area around the time of the collision and captured any relevant dashcam footage. Finally, I am appealing to the driver of the car involved to please come forward so we can take your account of what happened.”

The fail-to-stop offence is being treated as a criminal matter, and officers from the Poole North neighbourhood policing team are working to identify the driver. The road closure remained in place while investigators gathered evidence, and the force has confirmed the victim’s injuries are not thought to be serious. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260100614. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online or on 0800 555 111.
