A brand-new fire station will rise on Studley Road in Luton, replacing the current building that has served the town for 70 years. Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service announced the plan as it marked the anniversary of Luton Community Fire Station, which first opened its doors on 7 July 1956.

The anniversary celebration on Saturday 4 July brought together serving and former firefighters, families, and local dignitaries for tours and refreshments. During the event, Cllr Jacqui Burnett announced: “As we reflect on the legacy of Luton Fire Station, we also look to the future with confidence and excitement as we shift our focus to building a new fire station on the same Studley Road site that is fit for a modern-day fire service.” Cllr Jacqui Burnett, Chair of the Fire Authority, presented a commemorative plaque to Station Commander Mike King, thanking crews for decades of duty.

Luton is the largest and busiest station in Bedfordshire, home to 60 firefighters who provide round-the-clock cover every day of the year. The existing building houses two rescue pumps and the Luton Aerial Platform, which gives crews elevated access during major incidents. An East of England Ambulance Service crew and a dedicated ambulance are also based at the site, alongside the service’s Southern Area Office and a Fire Cadet unit that meets on Tuesday evenings during term time.

The new station will maintain the same Studley Road location, ensuring it continues to protect Luton and surrounding areas without interruption. Construction timelines have not yet been released.
