Residents across Dudley borough, including those in Kingswinford, can now help shape where future homes, businesses and community facilities will be built after Dudley Council launched a public consultation on the new Dudley Borough Local Plan. The initial consultation began on 16 July and will run until 10 September.

The plan will set a development strategy running to 2045 and will influence every planning decision made in the borough. Council leader Councillor Patrick Harley urged residents to take part, saying the Local Plan determines where development should and should not happen, and that public input is essential because it shapes the whole borough over time.

The consultation comes just days after the council formally adopted the Dudley Local Plan on 13 July, a document covering the period up to 2041. However, changes to national planning legislation mean the council must now prepare a fresh plan that meets updated requirements. The current adopted plan focuses on brownfield-led regeneration and does not release green belt land, but the new Borough Local Plan will review and eventually replace it.

This is the first of three public consultations planned for the new Local Plan, which is expected to be fully adopted around April 2029. Residents can submit their views online, and the council’s Planning Policy Team is also available by email or post for those with queries.
