Patients and visitors to the Frailty Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital face changes to drop-off and collection arrangements while construction of a new Department of Critical Care gets underway.
From 13 July, vehicles can no longer park directly outside the Frailty Same Day Emergency Care area. Four dedicated spaces on the outer edge of the Tower Car Park are now reserved for those who are frail or need assistance, with a clearly signed pedestrian walkway linking the car park to the unit. Internal access to the Frailty Unit itself remains unchanged.
The new four-storey critical care facility, announced in January, is being built between the Tower Block and Gallery Wing over a three-year period. It will initially provide 24 beds and can expand to 36 as demand grows. The Trust held a community feedback session in February to hear from patients and relatives about shaping the new unit, which aims to cut transfers and out-of-hours discharges while improving safety and staff wellbeing.
Gallery Wing staff who previously parked near the site have been moved to temporary spaces at the University of Gloucestershire and St Peter’s School until the end of August.
