Residents in Canvey Island, Essex, can look forward to a summer of free workshops and author talks after local charity Trust Links published a Canvey Island guide to the 2026 Essex Book Festival on January 24, 2026. The charity shared the local lineup for the Essex Book Festival, which focuses on using reading and writing to support wellbeing.

The festival runs from May 28 to June 28, 2026, with several key events taking place on the island. Local people can visit Canvey Island Library on the High Street (2 High Street, SS8 7RB) or The Gunny Community Hub to take part in sessions led by authors.

This year’s programme includes nature‑writing workshops and bibliotherapy sessions that use stories to help with mental health and wellbeing. Many sessions are free to access to reduce cost barriers for residents who might otherwise struggle to attend arts events.

The festival’s move to a late‑May/June schedule (following a 2025 pilot) has expanded the use of outdoor and non‑traditional community spaces, such as community gardens and parks, allowing more people to meet in places where they already feel comfortable, including therapeutic garden spaces managed by local partners.

Those interested can find out more about existing groups, such as the Coffee and Crime club at Canvey Library, and register for free tickets through Trust Links or via their local library.
