The local gardening group at Bootle Library in Merseyside will return for its 2026 season starting this April. The group meets twice a month to help residents learn how to grow plants and spend time outdoors with their neighbours.
Sessions will take place on the first and third Thursday of each month, April through October 2026 (1st and 3rd Thursdays, 10am–12pm). Volunteers of all experience levels can join in with planting and looking after the garden, which is located to the south of the library building on Stanley Road (Bootle Library, 220 Stanley Road).
The project is part of the At The Library programme, which uses the outdoor space to grow fruit and vegetables. The garden’s produce has been used in community lunches and kitchen activities (the library’s ‘Chopping Club’), where residents learn to cook and share meals together.
Sefton Council describes the garden as an important green space for the community. While community groups across Sefton and the borough have been recognised in North West In Bloom awards, there is no record in the cited sources that the Bootle Library garden itself has previously won a regional award. Sefton 4 Good has also supported the group — for example, by running volunteering taster sessions that helped revamp the library’s outside space and attract new volunteers.
Residents interested in taking part can sign up through March 2026 (registration/preparation is scheduled January–March 2026) or contact Bootle Library for details and to join the sessions. For enquiries phone Bootle Library on 0151 934 5781 or email [email protected].
