The global fashion brand Hollister has announced it will open a new 6,000 sq ft flagship store at the Metrocentre in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. The signing was announced on January 29, 2026; the shop is expected to open in Summer 2026 and will be located in the Red Mall (Metrocentre’s store directory lists the unit in the Lower Red Mall).
The new 6,000-square-foot store will use Hollister’s latest shop format, moving away from the brand’s earlier, darker store aesthetic to a brighter, more open, multi-channel-focused layout designed to serve both in-person and online customers.
The deal was managed by Sovereign Centros from CBRE, the asset managers of Metrocentre. Ben Cox, Director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, said: “The strategic addition of Hollister is a clear demonstration of our commitment to delivering a prime retail mix, one that hits the right notes across our entire visitor demographic. Our fashion offer is growing in response to evidenced demand; we are continuing to attract the best-in-class shop fits, and Hollister’s desire to be part of Metrocentre shows the pull of having a real critical mass of competitor brands in one place.”
The unit will be adjacent to Stradivarius and the upsized Superdrug. It joins a wave of international fashion names that have recently arrived at Metrocentre, including Urban Outfitters and Stradivarius; beauty retailer Sephora has also opened at the Metrocentre but in a different mall within the complex.
Gavin Prior, Centre Director at Metrocentre, said the centre had seen a busy start to 2026 and that local shoppers had been asking for more premium choices and exclusive brands. Metrocentre recorded more than 16 million visitors across 2025.
