Surrey County Council is distributing 750 free trees at participating libraries in Surrey during early February 2026 to help residents add more nature to their gardens. The giveaway is part of the council’s wider “1.2 million trees by 2030” strategy — a target the council describes as planting one tree for every resident in the county.

Residents in Surrey Heath are being offered native saplings (bare-root ‘whips’) suited to smaller gardens, such as rowan (mountain ash), silver birch and hazel. The briefing identifies Camberley Library (Knoll Road) as a primary distribution site, and lists Frimley Green and Bagshot as additional local outlets; the council’s public events pages also list several library giveaway locations across the county (check local branch pages for confirmed participation and opening times).

Surrey County Council says the trees will be handed out as young, easy-to-carry plants accompanied by a simple planting-and-aftercare guide. Library giveaways are being run on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last; no pre-booking is required for these library events, though proof of Surrey residency may be requested.

If you plan to collect a tree from Camberley Library, check the branch page before you travel — the library site has a scheduled maintenance notice in early February that may affect some opening hours. For the most up-to-date details on locations, dates and times, consult the Surrey County Council tree-planting pages and your local library’s web page.
