Arts Centre Washington in Washington, Tyne and Wear has launched a new Teenage Craft Club for young people aged 11 to 19. The club is free to attend and will meet fortnightly on Tuesday evenings from February 2026 to help teenagers learn new creative skills.

The sessions take place from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Arts Centre Washington. Attendees will have the chance to try hands-on activities such as metal embossing and textile upcycling.

The initiative is part of the Bright Lights youth arts programme and provides an entry route for young people to develop work that can be shown as part of the festival. The programme is funded through the Culture Start initiative and supported by Sunderland City Council’s Washington Area Committee, and participation is free.

Local reports in the Sunderland Echo have previously highlighted how ACW’s youth platforms help students gain recognition and success; local education representatives told the Echo that seeing work displayed at the centre is “extremely inspiring and encouraging” for students.

Those who join the club may also have the opportunity to sell their finished work at local craft fairs. Because the sessions are expected to be popular, residents are encouraged to book spots in advance via the Sunderland Culture website.
