On 31 January 2026, 28 residents met at Croyland Park in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, to clear away litter. The event was led by the Wellingborough Eco Group and the Wellie Wombles as part of their regular community tidy-up efforts.

During the two-hour session, the volunteers collected 44 bags of rubbish along with a shopping trolley and old blankets. Much of the waste was found in the park’s wooded areas and near the water, where litter often accumulates during the winter months.

The team used pink bags provided through a partnership with North Northamptonshire Council, which also arranges for the waste to be collected and removed. Organiser Jonathan Hornett praised the turnout as showing community pride, while noting the amount of rubbish highlights a major challenge for the area.

Freddie Harris of the Wellie Wombles said these monthly events help residents take ownership of their local streets. The group plans to continue their cleaning efforts on the last Saturday of every month to keep the town’s green spaces tidy for everyone.
