A main road linking Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, to East Molesey will close for four days in February 2026 while Surrey County Council carries out essential bridge repairs.

Surrey County Council will close Esher Road (A3117) between the Summer Road junction and the Walton Road/Hersham bypass roundabout from 16 February to 19 February 2026 to carry out structural work on the bridge that crosses the River Mole.

The closure has been scheduled to coincide with the county’s February school half-term (16–20 February 2026) to reduce disruption. A signed diversion will be in place via Molesey Road (B369) and the A317.

Bus passengers will be affected. Falcon Buses says its 514 service (and the 814) will be diverted during the works and will not serve The Wilderness, Molesey Health Centre and Seymour Road; the operator warned passengers to expect delays and apologised for any inconvenience (see Falcon Buses service updates).

The Esher Road bridge is a key local crossing used by daily commuters and school traffic. Local reporting and council briefings show the crossing has had previous minor repairs, and this 2026 programme is a more substantial structural intervention to secure the crossing for the long term. Traffic surveys cited in local transport briefings also show increased traffic on the A3117 in recent years, making closures here likely to have a wider impact on nearby routes.

Drivers and bus users are advised to check Surrey County Council’s roadworks pages and Falcon Buses’ service updates for the latest travel information and any changes to the diversion while the work is carried out.
