The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in Macclesfield, Cheshire, starting at 6pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The alert is set to remain in place until 9am on Wednesday, February 4, as temperatures drop below freezing across the region.

Forecasters expect sleet and snow showers to settle overnight, making roads and pavements very slippery for the Wednesday morning commute. The town could see up to three centimetres of snow, while higher ground in the Peak District may see as much as ten centimetres.

Cheshire East Council has confirmed that gritting teams are working on primary routes to keep traffic moving. The council says it will treat pre-planned primary roads but does not routinely grit footways (pavements), so pedestrians should take extra care.

The Met Office says recent rain — including impacts from Storm Goretti — has left the ground saturated, increasing the risk of ice forming quickly as the air turns colder. This could lead to difficult conditions for people walking or cycling, as well as potential delays for public transport services.

Residents are encouraged to check on older neighbours and plan for extra travel time tomorrow morning. Local updates on road closures and community news are being provided by Macclesfield Nub News as the weather develops.
