Wolverhampton Girls’ High School in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, has been named one of the top state secondary schools in the region for 2026. The recognition appears in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026, which ranks schools largely on their recent public exam performance.

The school is ranked 8th in the West Midlands and 61st nationally. These results are based on the summer 2025 exam series, in which over 70% of GCSE entries were awarded grades 9–7.

Headteacher Trudi Young said in the school’s announcement: ‘We are delighted to be recognised in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide – Top Ten State Secondary Schools in the West Midlands. This achievement reflects the hard work, ambition and dedication of our students, staff and school community. We remain committed to providing an exceptional education, fostering an environment where every girl can thrive and preparing our students for their next steps.’ (Wolverhampton Girls’ High School statement, Dec 5, 2025)

Department for Education performance tables show sustained strong exam outcomes for the school, and local reporting noted that this latest ranking makes WGHS the top-performing state school in the Black Country. The school’s recent Ofsted inspection (28–29 November 2023) returned an ‘Outstanding’ judgement in its published report.

The announcement comes as families consider school options for the 2026 academic year. Founded in 1911, Wolverhampton Girls’ High School remains a popular choice for parents seeking a selective, high-achieving education in the city.
