Residents in Kirkby, Merseyside, can look forward to a break from harsh winter conditions as the Met Office predicts calmer and milder weather for Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Temperatures are expected to climb to a high of 10°C, which is a few degrees warmer than the typical February average for the area. This shift marks the end of a difficult period that saw freezing wind chills and wind gusts reaching around 40mph during the start of the month.

These stronger winds were part of the 2025–26 storm season, which included the recent impact of Storm Chandra. Met Office forecasters say a change in the jet stream and the build-up of higher pressure is allowing milder Atlantic air to reach the North West.

Despite the lighter breeze, experts warn that the ground remains very wet from previous heavy rain and melting snow. The Merseyside Flood Hub notes there is still a risk of surface-water flooding on local roads; local authorities have also warned that key commuter routes, such as the M57 corridor, could be affected.
