Adults in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, can take part in free weekly seated exercise classes starting Tuesday 10 February 2026 at Clacton Library on Station Road. The 45-minute sessions are designed to help residents stay mobile and independent through gentle activity in a supportive setting.

The classes will run every Tuesday at 4:00pm and are described as being led by instructors; they are free to join. These sessions provide a low-impact way for people with limited mobility to improve their health and meet others in the community.

Funding for the programme comes from Active Essex through its Find Your Active grant scheme, which supports local organisations to deliver low-impact and inclusive activity. This initiative follows a £10 million redevelopment project for the Clacton Library site — a scheme led by Essex County Council and Essex Housing (with support from Tendring District Council) that is intended to create a hub for learning and community services.

Local data from the Office for National Statistics shows the Clacton area has a larger-than-average older population and correspondingly higher levels of health inequality, concerns the library hopes these sessions will help address. The Essex Library Service is hosting the classes as part of its Everyone’s Library 2022–2026 strategy to broaden libraries’ role in supporting community wellbeing.
