Portsmouth City Council is launching a refreshed visual identity and a programme of market events across Portsmouth, Hampshire, beginning 21 February 2026. The relaunch introduces new branding, more street food, family activities and artisan stalls as part of Portsmouth100, the city’s centenary celebrations marking 100 years since it was granted city status in 1926.

The council says the programme aims to turn traditional shopping areas into social hubs by adding performance stages, artisan and speciality markets, and family-friendly activities at locations including Commercial Road (city centre), Palmerston Road (Southsea) and Cosham High Street. Council materials and the reporter’s brief frame the relaunch as part of a wider five-year economic action plan to support high-street recovery following the loss of major retail anchors in recent years.

Commercial Road has already seen minor improvements such as new seating, planting, play equipment and a pavement graphic by artist Angela Chick, measures the council introduced in 2024 as part of earlier regeneration work. The markets relaunch is a central element of Portsmouth100 and will feature new regular events—including a hot food market, family ‘Spark-it’ activities and expanded speciality markets—throughout 2026.

The programme will culminate in an expanded Christmas Market expected to run from mid-November through 31 December 2026 and act as one of the centrepieces of the centenary festivities. The council is working with local partners, including Love Southsea Markets, to manage the expansion and to support both long-established traders and new food vendors.
