The Environment Agency’s flood-monitoring service shows elevated river levels at Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, on 6 February 2026, and a flood alert is in place for the wider area. The Walton gauge recorded 3.51m this morning — close to the top of the station’s normal range.

Rain is forecast for much of Friday, with periods of persistent or showery rain expected through the day. Emergency planners warn that saturated ground from recent winter weather could produce rapid runoff and push water onto low-lying land and footpaths. The Environment Agency’s flood area for Walton names towpaths near Walton Bridge and recreational spaces on Desborough Island among the places most likely to be affected.

Elmbridge Borough Council says its incident teams are in the area clearing weed/trash screens and drains to help surface water flow away from roads. The Environment Agency is managing flows through locks, weirs and the Desborough Cut — including operational adjustments at nearby locations — to try to limit the rise. The EA and local authorities advise residents to avoid riverside paths while levels remain high.

The 3.51m reading is near the station’s upper normal range and is well below the highest recorded level at Walton during the major February 2014 event (4.40m at this station). Authorities are continuing work on the River Thames Scheme, a long-term flood-alleviation project intended to better protect homes and businesses along this stretch of the Thames.
