Hertfordshire County Council released a new ‘Fifty Thrifty’ guide on 6 February 2026 to help families in Rickmansworth find low-cost activities during the upcoming half-term. The campaign collates 50 local adventures that are described as ‘no cost’ or ‘low cost’ to help parents plan affordable days out.

Titled ‘Fifty Thrifty’, the guide is aimed at helping households manage costs during the school break from 16 to 20 February 2026. The council’s materials for the campaign include a digital map and list of participating venues, including options where children can eat for free or at a discounted rate.

Local highlights in Rickmansworth include Rickmansworth Aquadrome. The nature reserve is owned and managed by Three Rivers District Council; Three Rivers has encouraged families to use activity sheets and explorer resources at the site as part of the council’s outdoor programme.

For indoor entertainment, Watersmeet theatre in Rickmansworth is running event-cinema screenings during the period. Watersmeet operates a membership discount scheme and publishes its film and event schedule online; any specific matinee-price offers should be confirmed with the venue prior to visiting.

Other low-cost options promoted in the guide include activities at local libraries and subsidised sports and leisure sessions for children run by local providers. These measures align with Hertfordshire’s wider strategy for young people — set out in ‘Hertfordshire’s Plan for Children and Young People 2026–31’ — which emphasises access to healthy, active opportunities for children regardless of household income.
