Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses after a fail-to-stop collision on Redhill Avenue in Bournemouth on Thursday 5 February 2026.

Officers attended the incident at about 7.45pm, after reports of a collision involving a silver car and a pedestrian on Redhill Avenue. Police say the car failed to stop at the scene. A 17-year-old girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police Constable Rhianna Sly, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Thankfully, the pedestrian in this incident was not seriously injured. We are carrying out enquiries into this collision, and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw what happened or was travelling with a dashcam that may have captured relevant footage, to please get in touch. I am also appealing to the driver of the vehicle to do the right thing and come forward so we can take your account of what happened.”

Officers are asking anyone who was in the area to check dashcam or other CCTV footage and contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260017510. Information can also be passed to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Local residents have previously raised concerns about traffic on Redhill Avenue; local coverage has described the road as a ‘rat run’ during peak hours and there have been calls for traffic-calming measures in the area.

Failing to stop after an accident is a criminal offence under Section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. Penalties can include up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine (commonly cited as up to £5,000) and 5–10 penalty points on a driving licence.
