Families in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, can now access a new list of 50 low-cost or free local activities to help keep children entertained during the upcoming school half-term from Monday 16 February to Friday 20 February 2026. According to Hertfordshire County Council’s school term dates, the half-term runs from 16–20 February 2026.

Hertfordshire County Council released its “Fifty Thrifty” guide to provide affordable options for parents and carers during the winter break. Local highlights in the list include visiting animals at the Cedars Nature Centre — a not-for-profit community zoo in Cedars Park where entry is typically by small donation or a nominal fee (around per person, depending on the visit) — and exploring the outdoors at Grundy Park.

The Borough of Broxbourne has also signalled support for cost-effective local leisure in its recent budget and committee papers. This includes promoting Treasure Map Trails (with a Cheshunt trail among others) and investing in bike maintenance stands at local parks to support active travel between activity sites.

Residents can find the full list of adventures on the Hertfordshire County Council website or by following the #FiftyThrifty hashtag on social media for daily spotlights. According to the council, the initiative began in 2023 as a response to the cost-of-living crisis and has since become a regular fixture for school holidays due to strong local uptake.
