A returning series of evening street food markets will bring food trucks, live music and drinks to Stonehills Square in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, starting on 9 April 2026. The Welwyn Garden City Business Improvement District (BID), operating under the Wonderful WGC brand, is organising the events to give residents more social options in the town centre after work.
The Street Food Heroes events are set to take place on several Thursday evenings throughout the spring and summer of 2026. The planned dates are 9 April 2026, 14 May 2026, 11 June 2026, 9 July 2026 and 13 August 2026, with a final event scheduled for 11 September 2026.
Working with operational partner Street Food Heroes, the organisers will bring a rotating selection of food stalls to the square each month. Visitors can expect a variety of street-food options — such as gourmet burgers, tacos and bao buns — alongside a pop-up bar and local musical performers.
These events will use the pedestrian area at Stonehills Square, which was redeveloped around 2021–2022 to host community gatherings and larger public events. The goal is to encourage more people to visit the town centre during late afternoons and evenings to support nearby shops and restaurants.
The Thursday events will run from 4:00pm until 9:00pm. These evenings are funded through the BID levy (a charge on local businesses) to help make the town a more vibrant place for the community to visit.
