On February 10, 2026, visitors to Farnworth in Greater Manchester reported travel delays and parking restrictions as major construction continues on Market Street. The work forms part of the wider Farnworth Green redevelopment and the ‘Streets for All’ public realm improvements to transform the old market precinct into a new neighbourhood of homes and commercial space.

Bolton Council, working with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), is overseeing the ‘Streets for All’ road improvements, including junction upgrades where Market Street meets King Street. The scheme includes new cycle lanes, improved footways and pedestrian areas intended to make the town centre easier to navigate on foot and by bike.

Construction activity has led to temporary traffic signals and restricted access affecting deliveries and shoppers. Motorists have reported significant delays reaching the Kearsley roundabout, and some drivers are diverting through residential side streets to avoid the main road closures.

Capital&Centric, the lead developer for Farnworth Green, says the scheme will deliver 85 apartments, 12 family homes and over 20,000 sq ft of commercial space. The developer says workers are removing site hoardings to reveal a new public square as buildings on site top out.

Bolton Council says work on the road junctions is due to be finished by April 30, 2026, while the council and developer expect the wider project and public realm to be completed in summer 2026 — though council material notes dates remain subject to change.
