Bolton Council has unveiled a £1.5 million Pride in Place Impact Fund to improve parks and public spaces across the borough in Greater Manchester. The fund was announced on 2 February 2026, and proposals for eight projects were considered by the council’s Deputy Leader at a meeting on 10 February 2026; the measures are subject to final approval.
The council has identified eight projects that could be funded, including installing CCTV in Queens Park, creating an outdoor community event space in Rumworth Park, and carrying out a range of improvements to Lever Hulme Park. The plan also includes upgrades such as new infrastructure and improved woodland access at Moses Gate Country Park, a series of town-centre murals, and new outdoor power units for Victoria Square to support major events. The proposals would also create high-spec office space on floors 4 and 5 of The Wellsprings innovation hub to help local businesses grow.
The £1.5m would add to nearly £2 million already committed by the council to parks, sports fields and green spaces in the 2024–25 period. Cllr Akhtar Zaman, Deputy Leader of Bolton Council, said the aim is for residents to notice improvements in their local areas ‘within a matter of months.’ The projects were selected to deliver value for money while addressing community needs such as safety and better footpaths.
The announcement follows the council’s 2025 Green Spaces Strategy consultation, in which residents asked for improved maintenance and more security in public parks. All schemes backed by the Pride in Place Impact Fund are planned for completion by March 2027, subject to approval and procurement timelines.
