The University of Northampton will host an online Living Room Lecture, “Understanding Student Finance – A Guide for Parents & Carers”, on 24 February 2026 to help parents and carers navigate the costs of higher education.

The session will focus on the government’s Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE), a major overhaul of student finance that creates a loan entitlement of £38,140 — the equivalent of four years of higher education — which learners can use flexibly over their lifetime. The lecture will explain how the LLE changes the previous model of degree‑specific loans and what that means for repayment and modular study options.

Families will be guided through the different types of statutory support for tuition and living costs and offered practical tips on student budgeting. UoN staff will also outline the University of Northampton’s income‑assessed bursary for eligible home full‑time undergraduates from households with an income of £25,000 or less — a non‑repayable award — and will signpost other scholarships, awards and hardship funds available.

Organised by the University’s Financial Guidance Team in conjunction with the Schools Liaison Office, the session will be delivered as a live webinar so people can join from home. The event will include an anonymous Q&A so attendees can submit questions without attaching their names. The university is positioning the session to help local families prepare ahead of the student finance application window and associated deadlines in the spring (see GOV.UK/Student Finance England for exact application opening and deadline dates).
