Tendring District Council is hosting a free BMX and skate jam at Clacton Trax Skatepark in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, on Tuesday 17 February 2026. The half-term event offers young people free coaching, trick competitions and demonstrations while giving residents the chance to view plans for a proposed £2 million ‘ride, climb and play’ facility nearby.
The event runs from 12:00pm to 4:00pm and will be hosted by community skate experts Team Rubicon, with demonstrations from elite riders. Visitors can also attend a drop-in session/exhibition to view designs for the proposed facility at the rear of Clacton Leisure Centre.
The proposals include the district’s first bouldering site, featuring three-metre-high climbing boulders, and a multi-section pump track split into four sections and culminating in a jump line, alongside a separate learn-to-ride cycling area and inclusive play spaces. Tendring District Council says the facilities would be free to use, with any complementary padel courts subject to hire charges.
Councillor Mick Barry, Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Public Realm, said: “The benefits of this type of facility are huge, promoting improved physical health, positive socialisation and an increased sense of wellbeing. We want this to be something the community can be proud of.” The council is asking for feedback from residents as part of a public consultation ahead of a formal planning application due later this year. The project forms part of the Community Regeneration Partnership — a £20 million investment programme from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government aimed at revitalising Clacton and Jaywick Sands. If the weather is poor on the day, a scaled-back version of the event will be held indoors in the leisure centre sports hall.
