Telford & Wrekin Council is running a week of free sports and play sessions for school-age children across Telford, Shropshire, during the February 2026 half-term. This initiative is designed to keep children active while school is out and provide families with activities that do not cost any money.
The Urban Games programme will run from February 16, 2026, to February 20, 2026, and includes activities like football, basketball, BMX biking, cricket, and netball. These drop-in sessions are held at local parks, playgrounds, and multi-use pitches so young people can turn up and play without needing to book in advance.
Sessions are taking place in several neighbourhoods, including Malinslee, Woodside, Brookside, Hollinswood, and Sutton Hill. According to the Telford & Wrekin Council, the activities are part of a wider project to support local families and provide children with structured things to do during their break.
Cllr Kelly Middleton, a cabinet member at the council, said the sessions are helping many families and giving young people a chance to make new friends. The council reports that these sessions have also helped to improve community safety, contributing to a 61.3 per cent drop in anti-social behaviour in the areas where the games are held.
Along with sports, the event includes “Dr Bike” sessions where children can have their bicycles checked and maintained. More information about the full schedule of holiday activities can be found through the Telford Newsroom.
