The Lancashire Police Museum in Lancaster, Lancashire, is hosting free horse-themed craft sessions on February 19 and February 20, 2026, to provide local families with a creative way to learn about the history of police horses during the school half-term.

Families do not need to book in advance and can simply turn up during the morning or afternoon sessions. These sessions run from 10:30 to 12:00 and again from 13:30 to 15:00 on both days.

The event is held at the museum site in the former prison wing of Lancaster Castle, which is listed as a key local landmark by Visit Lancaster. The museum features 16 former prison cells that now display the history of the county’s police force.

The Lancashire Constabulary chose the horse theme to highlight its Mounted Branch, which is one of the oldest units of its kind in the United Kingdom. Children can learn about the role these animals play in local policing while making their own crafts.

These activities are timed to match the local school holidays set by Lancashire County Council. The museum is normally open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays, allowing residents to visit the historical displays throughout the year at no cost.
