Residents and visitors in Durham, County Durham, can visit a free winter festival featuring ice carvings and street performances on February 27, 2026, and February 28, 2026. The annual Fire and Ice Festival will transform the city centre with a space exploration theme called Out of This World.

The event is organised by the local business group Durham BID and will run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both days. Specialist artists from Glacial Art Ice Sculptors will create hand-carved statues inspired by the stars and planets.

Visitors can follow a trail of sculptures through key areas including the Market Place and the Walkergate shopping area. There will also be displays near Durham Cathedral and the River Wear.

According to Visit County Durham, the festival was created to help local shops and cafes stay busy during the quiet weeks after Christmas. Because the event usually draws large crowds, local officials suggest using public transport or park and ride services to reach the city centre.

Along with the ice trail, the two-day event will include live music and performances that combine fire and ice. These activities are designed for families and are completely free to attend for everyone.
