People travelling to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, will face travel changes during several evening road closures this month. The South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed that parts of Marton Road will be closed from 7:00 pm to midnight on several dates to allow for utility repairs.

The closures are in place from Tuesday, February 17, to Friday, February 20, and on Monday, February 23, 2026. The work affects the stretch of the A172 between the southern entrance bus stop of the hospital and the junction at Ladgate Lane.

These restrictions are necessary for Northern Gas Networks to carry out gas pipe maintenance. The utility company expects its wider upgrade project in the Middlesbrough area to finish by the end of February 2026.

During the closure hours, drivers cannot enter the hospital from Ladgate Lane and must use the Belle Vue roundabout instead. Anyone leaving the hospital through the main entrance will only be able to turn right while the work is underway.

Pedestrian paths and visitor parking areas will stay open and are not affected by the road changes. Hospital officials advise staff and visitors to allow extra time for their journeys while these evening works take place.
