British Ice Skating has launched a new national project to highlight accessible skating sessions at the Oxford Ice Rink in Oxford, Oxfordshire. Known as ‘Let’s Skate SEN’, these sessions are designed specifically for people with special educational needs, disabilities, or impairments, as well as their families and carers.
The sessions take place every Monday from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM during designated quieter hours. To create a calm environment for visitors, staff turn off the music, dim the lights, and limit the number of people allowed on the ice at one time.
The rink also provides sensory toys to help make the experience less overwhelming for those who find standard public sessions difficult. This national recognition from the governing body is intended to make it easier for residents to find inclusive sporting opportunities in their local community.
The venue is managed by More Leisure Community Trust in partnership with the Oxford City Council. Standard adult prices at the rink are £11.15, and visitors can hire skating aids for £5.50.
