Headington Library in Oxfordshire launched a new weekly social group called The Thursday Library Club on January 29, 2026. The club meets every Thursday from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at the library building located in Bury Knowle Park.
The meeting is designed to give local families, residents, and commuters a place to gather and use library services without needing to travel into the Oxford city centre. This hour of activity happens while the library is already open for its usual late-night Thursday hours, which end at 7:00pm.
According to Oxfordshire County Council, the project is part of a plan to turn local libraries into community hubs. The council included specific funding in its 2025/26 budget to help libraries offer more social activities and support for people in their own neighbourhoods.
Those attending the club can socialise with neighbours, attend small activities, or browse the book collections at Bury Knowle House. The library staff run the weekly sessions to help make the building a more central part of daily life for people living in the area.
