Residents in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, will now have their full home addresses published online whenever they comment on local planning applications following a policy update by Peterborough City Council.

Under the new guidance, any letters or online forms submitted about a planning application will be uploaded to the council website for the public to see. The council has stated that it will ignore any comments sent anonymously or without a complete address. Officials are advising people to keep private details like phone numbers and personal email addresses out of their written comments to prevent them from being shared online.

This change comes as the city holds the Alternative Site Option Consultation for its long-term growth plan. This project, which runs through March 5, 2026, involves choosing new locations for thousands of homes and local infrastructure. Residents have until that date to share their views on these sites before the plan is finalised.

While public comments on applications are now open to the public, the council handles reports of planning rules being broken differently by keeping the identity of the person reporting the issue private. The online planning website is also set to close for maintenance from February 18, 2026, until February 24, 2026. This means residents will be unable to search for or comment on applications during that week.
