Residents in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, should prepare for heavy rain followed by freezing temperatures as a shift in weather brings icy roads and paths on February 16, 2026.

The Met Office forecast shows a 90 per cent chance of heavy showers at 11:00 AM, with wind gusts reaching 32mph throughout the day. After the sun sets at 17:23, skies are expected to clear by 19:00, which will cause temperatures to drop quickly toward 1°C.

Conditions will feel as cold as -2°C overnight due to the wind chill, leading to a frosty start and a risk of ice on Tuesday morning. While Tuesday is set to be a bright and sunny day, it will remain cold with temperatures reaching a high of only 5°C.

To help keep traffic moving, the City of Wolverhampton Council will aim to complete the gritting of main roads within three to four hours once a decision to treat the routes has been made. Smaller link roads are typically treated such that any ice that forms will not remain for more than two hours without treatment.

The Transport for West Midlands has advised people to allow extra time for their morning trips and to check for potential bus diversions. Drivers and walkers should take extra care on pavements and side roads that may not have been treated.
