The City of Wolverhampton Council in the West Midlands will meet on February 25, 2026, to decide on the local budget for the upcoming year. This Full Council meeting at the Civic Centre will determine council tax rates and how much money is spent on essential services like waste collection and social care for the 2026/27 financial year.

Council leaders have worked to close a significant funding gap which was once expected to reach 32.6 million pounds. Through a plan called the Our Future Council programme, the local authority has reduced this shortfall to approximately 7.1 million pounds by making various savings and changes to how they operate. The Local Government Association recently reviewed these efforts and confirmed the progress made in managing the city’s finances.

Residents have seen council tax increases of 4.99 per cent in each of the last two years to help pay for local needs. A major part of the current financial pressure comes from a high demand for children’s services, support for the elderly, and providing temporary housing for people who are homeless. Councillor Louise Miles and other local leaders will discuss whether another increase is necessary to keep these services running reliably.

The meeting will take place at the Civic Centre in St Peter’s Square where officials will weigh the cost of living against the need for city services. Decisions made during the session will directly affect household bills and funding for community groups throughout the next year.
